Hockenheim Gazette
Saturday 19 July 2008, 11:57:00 | RF1 Paddock Pass
Saturday morning and the paddock is full of talk about various stories and, of course, the weather...

Camping
The members of the F1 community usually like to stay as close to the circuit as possible - all the better to be at the track bright and early in the morning. However, Hockenheim is the one place where it is better to stay a respectable distance from the circuit. The reason? The camping sites that surround the circuit are full of a carnival atmosphere and excited fans all weekend long. Loud noise, firecrackers, claxon horns - it's a noisy place, and not always easy to get a good night's sleep. Better to be a few miles down the road. In the paddock, you can usually spot those who made the mistake of reserving their bed and breakfast near the stadium section!
Birthday lights
Tomorrow will mark the 33rd year that lights have been used to start Grands Prix. Before that we relied on the traditional flag to wave off the drivers. It was in Silverstone in 1975 that the lights first went out.
Camping (again)
Four of the local drivers were pitted against each other yesterday for a German television feature, with the challenge being to set up a camping tent. Timo Glock completed the task in a few minutes, while Sebastian Vettel and Nick Heidfeld needed a good quarter of an hour longer. Meanwhile Adrian Sutil was still searching for the instructions...
Weather
The chances of a wet race diminish by the hour. In fact, the forecast is for rain today and for sunshine on Sunday. Fernando Alonso may have hoped for a wet race, but it seems he wont get his way.
Hommage
Bernhard Cahier, one of the most illustrious photographers in the paddock, passed away last week at the age of 81. As a mark of respect, some of the paddock veterans are wearing armbands this weekend for the association of journalists and photographers in F1 that he created.
Quick Nick
According to the organisers of the Grand Prix, the second place for German driver Nick Heidfeld at Silverstone led to a boost in ticket sales for this weekend's race. "We have noticed an increase in sales from the Monday after Silverstone," confirmed a member of the circuit.

lol..what a pity for Sutil- would be the same with me i guess. I never set up a tent.
And Hockenheim is still in the red numbers. They will have to find a solution or it will be over for them in 2 years. For the spectators, maybe not such a great loss, the place looks like in the 60s.

The GP2 Blog with David Cameron
A great read, written by a journalist who takes the time to craft his entries. Not many updates but a very interesting blog for the inside story from F1's feeder category.
